When you first start up Date Calc you will see a top bar which you use to set the start and end dates, the calendar in the middle and a toolbar at the bottom which lets you get to the information page, jump to a date, offset a certain number of days or change the settings.

The end date of the 30th of November 2008 is shown with an arrow head, business days between the two dates are marked with chevrons. At the top you can see the number of calendar and business days between the two dates. If you touch the display showing the number of calendar and business days it will toggle to show you the number of years between the two dates, touching it again toggles back to show you the number of days:

To the right of the days/year display you will see a little email icon, touching this creates a new email with information about the dates you have selected:

If the person receiving the email has Date Calc on their iPhone or iPod Touch then they can click on the “Open in Date Calc on iPhone” link to launch Date Calc showing the date range as if they had entered it themselves.

Touching “Clear” will put the calendar back to normal - with no dates selected.

The three buttons on the toolbar are:

info_bar Shows the about screen
jump_to_bar Jump to a date
offset_bar Offset a date
settings_bar Manage the settings

Touching the jump to date arrow icon brings up the following screen:

Here you can touch “Today”, “Start Date” or “End Date” to jump straight to those days. Start Date and End Date will be greyed out if you don’t have any set on the calendar.

If you want to jump to a specific date then select it using the rollers towards the bottom of the screen and touch “Go”. If you just want to go back to the calendar without changing the date then touch “Cancel”.

Touching the offset date arrow icon takes you to the following screen:

By sliding your finger right to left where it says “Slide to change” you can change the number of days you wish to offset.

Select whether you want to offset by business days or calendar days. If you have start or end dates selected on the main calendar then you can offset from them, or just offset from today. You can also choose whether you want to offset forwards or backwards in time.

For example, if you wanted to calculate a pregnancy due date you would slide the number of days to 266 and select “Calendar Days”:

If you touch “Cancel” you will go straight back to the calendar display, touching “OK” will take you back with the offset days selected and displayed on the calendar.

Touching the manage settings cog takes you to the settings screen:

IMG_0001

Here you can set whether you want Date Calc to always jump to today’s date when you start it up. If you leave this off then Date Calc will always show the calendar as you left it.

If you switch on “Show days in month” then the calendar will show the number of business days there are in each month.

Touching the holiday calendar button (where it says None in the screen shot above) brings up the screen for choosing which holidays to show on the calendar and use when calculating the number of business days between two dates:

Touch the name of the country, or None to show no holidays.

When you touch OK on the settings screen your preferences are saved and you are taken back to the main calendar screen:

Holidays are highlighted in yellow, and a little flag next to the cog shows you which country’s holiday calendars are being shown.
